Esplora was born as an academic spin-off of the University of Trieste, with the aim of focusing on applied research and providing increasingly personalized services and non-standard applications.

We have gained in the fields of geophysics, geomorphology and instrumental diagnostics numerous and complex experiences in the national and international field..

The large social structure is composed of two research groups of the University of Trieste, that of sedimentology and coastal morphodynamics and that of exploration and applied geophysics.

Esplora was founded in 2012 by the friendship between researchers from universities and research groups of different backgrounds, gained in several years of collaborations on projects related to coastal and environmental issues. The wide shareholder base that forms Explorer is centered on two research groups of the University of Trieste, that of sedimentology and coastal morphodynamics, and to exploration geophysics and applied, supported by professionals Anfibia srl. We offer consultancy and survey services in the field of topography, geognostics, geomorphology and geology, to support the design of civil and industrial works and environmental requalification. The group has also acquired the experience and certifications to operate in the field of aerofotogrammetric surveys and non-destructive tests. High-resolution methodologies have been developed for the relief of road pavements, underground services and monumental assets. It also performs investigations aimed at archaeological research with technologically innovative instruments. The activities and surveys concern both the terrestrial and marine environment, with a particular specialization for coastal and transition areas for which it boasts specific and accurate expertise.

The different applied geophysical, acoustic, geoelectric, electromagnetic and magnetic methods allow to detect the stratigraphy of the subsoil and to earthquake and earthquake characteristics according to the provisions of the Technical Standards for Construction. They also allow to identify aquifers, buried structures, cavities and archaeological finds, war devices, buried waste, polluted areas, subservices both on large areas and under structures (churches, buildings, etc.). Surface measurements can be performed with a georadar and an electromagnetometer within a depth of 10 m with very high resolution, or deep surveys of over 100 m with geoelectric and seismic methods.
Surveys can be performed for the morphology of the seabed, the mapping of wrecks and the detection of buried structures. Medium-small boats are available including a vessel registered in the register of smaller vessels and floats for use “own account”, suitable for coastal research. The instruments used are high resolution acoustic (multibeam, subbottom profiler) and magnetometric. Moreover, among the most developed methodologies we propose the CERT marine geoelectric survey service in static and dynamic mode, which allows to investigate with high resolution the shallow waters between -1m and -10m, which allows to determine archaeological finds, war devices and subservices. .
The geomorphological and cartographic analysis is applied to the analysis of the territory for the realization of works, territorial planning, monitoring, risk assessment; in particular in coastal areas (nourishment, dredging, restorations) up to affecting industrial and tourist ports. We are able to perform analysis of aerial photos including multispectral and historical cartography with GIS systems, completing the analysis with data acquired through GPS RTK, total station and aerofotogrammetry.
The aerofotogrammetric surveys performed with drones equipped with GPS RTK, allow to detect large areas in a short time obtaining high density point clouds and high altitude accuracy. We perform surveys in the hydrogeological field for the prevention of flooding from river banks, in the agronomic sector to improve the effectiveness of precision agriculture, and in particular as a function of monitoring the emerged beaches of coastlines at risk of erosion. Our multi-rotor SAPRs are equipped with high-resolution optical sensors in the multispectral band, are homologated and piloted by qualified personnel for operations in critical areas and not as required by the ENAC Regulation, pursuant to art. 75 and 76 of the D.P.R. 445/2000.
We perform environmental monitoring of various types to support the construction of coastal plans, infrastructure or for the characterization of contaminated sites. State-of-the-art technologies, sensors for APR systems, wavemeter buoys, CTD probes, for applications such as the assessment of surface and ground water quality, support for port dredging or quarrying, or for the weather classification, are used. marine of a certain area. The data are generally organized and managed on a GIS platform with which spatial analyzes, metric calculations and thematic maps are carried out.
Non-destructive tests, also called CND, use non-invasive investigation techniques that can be applied on different types of material such as cement, concrete, bricks and natural stones, mortars, metal reinforcements, FRP. Through their use it is possible to evaluate the quality of the materials and the presence of defects within the structures. Resistance tests are carried out using the combined methods SonReb (sclerometer, ultrasound), diameter and depth measurements of metal reinforcement with pacometer, and structural investigations in the field of seismic verification on historic buildings with georadar and thermography.
In conjunction with cores that are normally carried out on the road pavement or on the airport runways, georadar surveys can be coupled to determine the thickness of the layers bound in bituminous conglomerate or concrete, as well as the relative sub-floors. We are equipped with very high resolution RF multi-frequency instrumentation R.Ex. (Road Explorer) and MiniMIRA 3D, equipped on trailers approved for road traffic. Resolutions up to 1 cm can be achieved in the definition of the thicknesses with acquisition speed even higher than 50 km / h. 3D technology is particularly effective in identifying subservices or buried structures. The final results are returned to tables and maps that can be consulted on cartographic databases.
